Most shared services leaders understand the value of workforce analytics. Yet, the majority are struggling to use data in a meaningful way. This conundrum was on full display at a recent webinar co-hosted by Sapience and SSON, “Level-Up Your SSO/GBO with the Power of Workforce Analytics.” During the event, the moderator conducted live polls and found that:
- 90 percent of webinar participants believe workforce analytics is critical or very important for optimizing shared services.
- 100 percent are challenged in gathering meaningful insights on capacity, employee performance, work distribution and location data about their shared services organization (SSO).
These findings did not surprise Brad Killinger, CEO at Sapience Analytics. In the webinar, he noted business leaders are facing “a lack of accessible, usable data that can easily be turned into insights.”
Often, executives do not realize that deploying a workforce analytics solution can take just a few weeks, or even days. In the webinar, Stephen Sharlow, Vice President of Global Shared Services at Brink’s – a leading global provider of cash and valuables management, digital retail solutions, and ATM managed services – shared his experience deploying Sapience VUE, a workforce analytics platform for enterprise workforces.
“Our teams found the experience very straightforward and one of the easiest solutions to implement. It was essentially a plug-and-play with very, very well-structured rigor around the implementation,” he explained.
“The product is powerful; it will shine a light on opportunities.
We have already had several ‘wow’ moments across our group.”

How One Global Brand Uses Workforce Analytics to Increase Shared Services’ Value
Sharlow described the global shared services organization as essential to the company’s mission of expanding into digital markets, advancing customer operations, and increasing technology capabilities to fuel growth. Sharlow was interested in using workforce analytics to improve the SSO’s value to the company and to reimagine flexible work to attract and retain talent.
“Because of both of those missions, we saw that we had a need to have robust insights to manage capacity. I mean, we are a people business after all. So, we look to provide our people managers with the right tools to enable them to manage their assets and drive productivity,” Sharlow said.
He began with a proof of concept, rolling out Sapience VUE to a small group to assess its value. Then, he shared the data with his leadership team, who recognized the opportunity to use workforce analytics to optimize the business.
Using platform data, Brink’s has shifted resources to optimize capacity. Sharlow and his team also analyze technology utilization to determine the tools employees find most valuable and note trends in external resource utilization to identify tools they may be missing.
“Shared services leaders need to find those quick-return, low-investment, easy-to-implement solutions,” Sharlow said. “Workforce analytics had done that for Brink’s.”
